The Eagles didn't get their football back in the playoffs. Caught by the throat from the start of the game by the outstanding play of Baker Mayfield (22/36, 337 yards, 3 TDs), the Eagles never seemed to be able to come back. The Buccaneers dominated the game from start to finish on offense and defense. More efficient in attack, more solid in defense.

Tampa Bay’s domination

It didn't take long to find out if the Eagles' defense was getting any better. 65 yards and a field goal on the first offense of the game for Tampa. 79 yards in 4 plays and a touchdown on their second possession. And now the Buccaneers lead 10-0. Then 13-0 midway through the second quarter.

But Philadelphia is waking up a bit. First on the foot (13-3), then with a touchdown by Dallas Goedert (4 rec, 21 yards, 1 TD) on a pass from Jalen Hurts (25/35, 250 yards, 1 TD). But the two-point conversion is missed; At halftime, Tampa led 16-9.

Philadelphia already didn't really seem to be able to come back. But the scoreboard was relatively soft at 18-9 when Trey Palmer broke all at the end of the third quarter. The Wide receiver caught a short pass, broke a tackle and raced 56 yards for the touchdown to make it 25-9. Far too much for the slow-moving Eagles.

Chris Godwin (4 rec, 45 yards, 1 TD) added the final touch with a touchdown (32-9) for good measure.

Baker Mayfield’s performance

You never really replace Tom Brady, but it’s an understatement to say that Baker Mayfield looks like Tom Brady yesterday. After leading his team to the playoffs, the former Browns quarterback was aggressive from the beginning without overdoing it, he didn’t have a single turnover and capitalize on weaknesses of the opposing defense.

He didn't even have to rely heavily on a rather quiet Mike Evans (3 rec, 48 yards).

The flop: Philadelphia's defense collapse

Messy missed tackles allow the Buccaneers' receivers to wander around the field. 426 yards conceded in a playoff game. 6/14 allowed on third down. It was the end of a season in the form of a shipwreck for a Philadelphia defense.

The Buccaneers gained 219 yards after the catch, exposing the terrible struggles of Eagles defenders to take anyone down.

What’s now?

The Eagles were the favorites to win it all back in November with 10-1 record in 11 weeks. They went 1-6 in their last seven games. The defense never raised its head and the team never recover from the embarrassing lost to the 49ers (42-19) back in early December. In the end, only Jalen Hurts seemed to emerge unscathed from the disaster. Without his number 1 receiver, A.J. Brown, and because of the absence of the running game, Hurts relied heavily on Devonta Smith (8 rec, 148 yards) and did what he could. He might have to deal without Jason Kelce, who looked very emotional at the end of the game, with the look of a player who seemed to be saying goodbye.

Tampa Bay will face the Detroit lions in Detroit. The Buccaneers are heavy underdogs, but they showed on Monday night that they have all the weapons to give the lions a run for their money.
